Writing Homeowrk Criteria

Letter Formation and Penmanship
  • All letters should be formed neatly and correctly (letter formation instructions).
  • All letters should be sitting on the baseline.
  • Short letters should be formed at the midpoint.
  • Tall letters should be formed just under the top line (not touching it).
  • There should be one finger space between each letter or group of letters for Letter Formation Homework. There should be one finger space between each word for Sight Word Homework.
Sentence Formation
  • Students are expected to write one sentence on each page using the sight word of focus. The sight word of focus must be spelled correctly.
  • All sentences should be a complete thought (subject and verb).
  • All sentences should begin with a capital letter.
  • All sentences should end with the appropriate end mark.
  • All sentences should be written neatly and in accordance with letter formation guidelines. There should be one finger space between each word in a sentence.

1.L.2d: I can spell words with common spelling patterns. I can spell sight words.
1.L.2e: I can use phonics skills to spell words I do not know.
1.L.4: I can figure out the meaning of words and phrases.
1.L.6: I can use new words that I have learned.
